Kungälv has a very strategic location for business and industry. The motorway and the railway line pass here; the favourable geographical location has led to a development in Kungälv in recent years. Kungälv inspires development, collaboration and business enterprises. It is a developmental environment both for companies and entrepreneurs. The business department is the municipal department responsible for assisting existing businesses in Kungälv and those interested in establishment in the area.

Kungälv has 1600 companies active within different lines of business. Many have been here for a long time while others have moved here, or established oneself during the last couple of years. Many of the companies are among the world leaders within their special field.

It is our ambition that as many people as possible who live in Kungälv should also have their place of employment here. We are therefore concentrating on the continued development of trade and industry through the municipal trade and industrial companies. Scandinavia’s most outstanding and biggest export and import harbour is just some twenty kilometres away, and suburban commuter services connect different areas with the rest of the region. Kungälv is a commuting municipality. Thanks to its central location to Gothenburg, combined with the excellent communication, many people choose to live in Kungälv and commute to these places. Around 4,000 residents of Kungälv commute every day.

The municipality itself is an important employer with about 3300 employees. However, another important factor of the business sector is the very large proportion of small businesses. Most companies are working in the provisions industry with approximately 1100 employees.
